We at CAYA AUDIO, as well as being Audiophiles love a bit of Science too, and so were
super hyped about  the developments of microphones all the way out there in
Space!

Sounds of Mars

The above picture is of the PERSEVERANCE Supercam Robot launched on the 18th of February
2021 and responsible for the first sound recordings of the infamous Red planet,
Mars!

The first sound recordings were recorded on the 19th February a day after its
arrival. The sounds are said to be within the human audible spectrum of 20Hz
and 20kHz. Key points discovered to date are despite the recordings Mars is
thought to be very quiet, the speed of Sound is lower on Mars then it is on
Earth and other robots equipped with microphones could help scientists to
better understand planetary environments. As well as much more interesting
points, the link for the full article is in the Bio.

Engineers have equipped Perseverance to be a good listener. It has Entry Descent and Landing (EDL) microphones that have recorded the sounds of landing. SuperCam’s toolkit also consists of a microphone that will help study Mars rocks and soil. However key to all of this is the great significance of audio and microphones. Not only are the capacity of microphones essential to our day-to-day communications but even more revolutionary Planetary developments like that of Mars
